ORLAND — You”ve heard of basketball teams hitting the hardwood. Well, the Wood hit back on Thursday night in the opening round of the Orland Tournament for junior varsity and varsity girls” basketball teams.
In this case, it was Wood High School of Vacaville, a 56-39 winner over the Lower Lake varsity.
“The kids played real hard tonight,” Lower Lake coach Jim Salmina said. “But Wood is a Division III team and they”re good.”
Behind Reana Harden”s 11 first-period points, Wood raced out to a 17-2 lead and led 22-6 by quarter”s end.
Lower Lake (5-2) pulled to within 26-16 by halftime and trailed by that same 10-point deficit ? 41-31 ? going to the fourth quarter, when the Wildcats began to extend their lead.
“The kids played competitive,” Salmina said.
“I thought Camry Richardson, Janiece LaValley and Dani Welch played extremely well off the bench considering the competition,” Salmina added.
Zobee Miller”s 13 points paced Lower Lake. April White added nine points and a team-best 11 rebounds. Miller also had six rebounds and three blocks.
Lower Lake plays today at 11:30 a.m.

JV girls” basketball
Analy 41, Middletown 20
At Forestville, Analy High of Sebastopol beat the Middletown JV girls 41-20 in the opening round of the El Molino JV Tournament.
“We turned the ball over 33 times and that”s just way too many,” Middletown coach Anthony Bazzano said.
Ashley Hart had seven points to lead the Mustangs, Alisha Bell added six points and eight rebounds, and Nicole Corsetti had four points and seven rebounds.
Middletown play Summerfield today at 3:30 p.m.
