LOWER LAKE — Lower Lake, Kelseyville and Middletown all lost first-round games in the varsity division Monday as the Lady Trojans Winter Classic girls” basketball tournament tipped off in Lower Lake.
The host Trojans, fresh off a 52-35 win over Durham in the consolation final of the Orland Tournament on Saturday, fell 33-32 in Vintage despite 18 points from April White and eight points and 11 rebounds from Zobee Miller.
In other first-round varsity games, Cardinal Newman took a 31-30 lead into the fourth quarter before beating Kelseyville 53-35, Healdsburg defeated Middletown 40-27, marking the third time this season the Greyhounds have beaten the Mustangs, and Northgate topped Piner 67-40.
Mary Brown”s 13 points, including three 3-pointers, paced Kelseyville. Amber Hart had 11 points and Jenny Hoefer eight to lead Middletown.
In the JV division, Middletown beat Healdsburg 40-39 on an Ashley Hart basket in the final 10 seconds, Lower Lake defeated Vintage 35-30 behind 18 points from Kayla Meadows, and Kelseyville fell 56-11 to Cardinal Newman.
In varsity games today, Kelseyville plays Lower Lake at 10:30 a.m., Middletown and Piner square off at 1:30 p.m., Vintage and Cardinal Newman meet at 4:30 p.m., and Northgate and Healdsburg play at 7:30 p.m.
In JV games today, it”s Kelseyville vs. Vintage at 9 a.m., Cloverdale vs. Healdsburg at noon, Cardinal Newman vs. Lower Lake at 3 p.m., and Northgate vs. Middletown at 6 p.m.
