LAKEPORT — Residents will see a slight increase in their garbage fees effective Jan. 1 after the City Council approved Lakeport Disposal”s request for an annual rate adjustment.
The contract allows the franchise hauler to ask for a yearly rate change based on a Consumer Price Index (CPI) for the San Francisco, Oakland and San Jose metropolitan area.
The formula for the most recent applicable 12-month period called for a 2.4-percent increase, which was approved by the council Tuesday night at Lakeport City Hall.
Residents using a 20-gallon trash bin will see a 32-cent increase in their 2012 monthly bill, according to Utilities Director Mark Brannigan.
The other rate changes include 48 cents more for the 32-gallon bin plan, 96 cents more for residents with two 32-gallon trash bins and $1.44 more for the 95-gallon bin plan.
The fee increases do not apply to recycling and yard-waste containers, Brannigan said.
The council recognized the winners of the citywide holiday decorating contest.
Rocky Point Care Center received first place in the business category and Main St. Bicycles finished in second.
Janice Mills, who lives at 1190 N. Brush St., won the residential division. Jared and Tiffany Bussard, who live at 842 Central Park Ave., received second place.
First-place finishers won $300 and second-place got $100.
The contest was sponsored by the city, Lake County Chamber of Commerce and Lakeport Main Street Association.
Mayor Stacey Mattina read a proclamation designating June 22 to Sept. 21, 2012 as Summer of Peace.
The city “urges our community to observe and participate in the activities, all in accord with the universal wish for peace on earth and good will toward man throughout the United States and the world,” according to the decree.
Mattina presented the proclamation to Taira St. John, a Lakeport resident organizing the season-long effort.
