FORT BRAGG — Laytonville beat Clear Lake 64-56 in the consolation championship game of the Fort Bragg Tournament on Wednesday at Fort Bragg High School.

The Cardinals” game was moved up three hours to 1:30 p.m. because of a scheduling snafu, according to Clear Lake coach Glenn Wienke, who said his team was sluggish and never recovered despite a 22-point fourth quarter.

“We just came out and weren”t hitting on all cylinders,” Wienke said.

Laytonville, a 74-60 loser to Clear Lake earlier this month at the Potter Valley Tournament, took a 49-34 lead into the fourth quarter.

Kyle Donald”s 16 points paced Clear Lake (7-3) and Adrian Perez added 14. Joining them in double figures was sophomore guard Danny Partida, who finished with 12. Partida and Nathan Harper were called up to the varsity on Tuesday because of injuries to several starters, including Donald, Perez and Steven Edwards.

“They both did great for a first varsity game,” Wienke said.

Harper had four points in his varsity debut.

Clear Lake beat Mendocino 49-48 in the consolation semifinals on Tuesday night behind 18 points from All-Tournament selection Edwards and 15 from Perez.

In opening-round action Monday, Clear Lake lost a wild 89-78 game to Hoopa despite 27 points from Donald, 18 from Perez, 15 from Edwards and 12 from Gabe Strong.
