Recession or Depression?
I think this is real truth of the matter like it or not.
All programs in effect today from the welfare system to every retirement program were not available in 1929. That was the day the Depression started in the United States.
In this current recession, we have work and service retirements. We have state and government funded disability programs from military and other armed forces.
We have the welfare system funded by the state and county as well as the federal government.
We also have veterans programs that were non-existent in 1929. Not even a Veteran of Foreign Wars at that time.
Not to mention Social Security.
With all the programs we have in place these days, many of us are surviving OK, until the money is all gone.
What happened?
Are we the people in better shape than we were 80 years ago? We have television if we subscribe to it. We have computers if we can afford them. Everyone has a car, I guess. However a gallon of gas and a gallon of fresh water will set you back as much as a day”s wages in 1929. And then what about insurance for life and limb, auto and home and the list goes on.
So what”s next?
Protests and protesters won”t solve anything. We all know that.
