LUCERNE — A Lake County Sheriff”s Office (LCSO) K-9 detained a man who allegedly ran when a warrant for his arrest was being served late Tuesday night.

Michael Shaffer, 27, of Lucerne allegedly ran when LCSO deputies knocked at the door of a house on Ogden Road, according to LCSO Sgt. Steve Brooks. Shaffer is alleged to be a known escape risk with a history of resisting arrest and possessing prohibited weapons, Brooks said.

As Shaffer ran toward Country Club Drive, the K-9 deputy told Shaffer to stop or he would send the dog. Shaffer allegedly continued running and the dog was released. When Shaffer ran into a garbage can and fell to the ground, the dog got ahold of Shaffer, Brooks said.

Shaffer allegedly continued to resist as the K-9 deputy struggled to gain control. After the dog again engaged Shaffer, he was able to be taken into custody.

Brooks said Shaffer was transported to the hospital where he received treatment for some abrasions, puncture wounds and a laceration behind his right ear that required several stitches.

Shaffer was arrested on charges of felony parole violation and resisting arrest. He was booked into the Lake County Hill Road Correctional Facility.
