SANTA ROSA — Upper Lake lost track of Trisha Harrison in the fourth quarter and the South Fork sophomore guard made the Cougars pay on Wednesday as the Cubs rallied past the Cougars 47-42 in the opening round of the Rincon Valley Christian Tournament in Santa Rosa.
Upper Lake (6-3) carried a 34-27 lead into the fourth quarter but couldn”t finish off the Cubs. Harrison was a big reason why as she hit several key 3-pointers down the stretch, capping a 29-point performance.
“We lost track of that shooter a couple of times and she hit a couple of big 3s,” Upper Lake coach Mike Smith said.
Harrison also made all four of her free throws in the fourth quarter while the Cougars were a collective 0-for-3 at the line in the period.
“We didn”t get to the line like we have been,” Smith said.
While Harrison did her part for the Cubs, Smith said the Cougars failed to accomplish what they needed to do down the stretch.
“We didn”t attack on offense like we had been earlier in the game,” he said. “Everyone was tentative in the fourth quarter. We needed to attack a little more.”
Kat Edmonds” 22 points paced the Cougars, who didn”t have another player with more than five.
Originally scheduled to play Urban of San Francisco in the opening round, the Cougars ended up with South Fork and tipped off three hours later than expected, according to Smith.
Upper Lake plays Ferndale today at 12:30 p.m. in the consolation semifinals.
