ARCATA — The medals keep pouring in for the Upper Lake High School wrestling program.
Ten of the team”s wrestlers traveled north on Thursday to compete in the Arcata JV Tourney and seven brought home medals that were awarded to the top three finishers in each weight class.
First-place medals went to Stoney Timmons at 195 pounds, Luke Mai at 152 pounds and Bill Robinson at 182 pounds.
Timmons, a senior wrestling for the first time, went 4-0 with four first-round pins, raising his season record to 13-1. Mai won all three of his matches, also with first-round pins, and Robinson went 3-0 with three pins.
Earning second-place medals were Nick Kranich, 2-1 with two pins at 195 pounds; Alex Kranich, 2-1 at 182 pounds; and Travis Morreira, 2-2 in the heavyweight division.
Upper Lake added a third-place medal at 170 pounds where Arthur Wilkie went 1-2.
The Cougars had the most medals of any team.They return to action Jan. 6-7 at two different locations. A handful of Upper Lake”s top wrestlers will compete in the Doc Buchanan Invitational at Clovis while the remainder of the squad, both varsity and JV, travels to Middletown for the annual Dennis Jensen Invitational.
