KELSEYVILLE — A man crashed his pickup into two trees along Highway 175 near Wildcat Road Tuesday.

According to Officer Domby with the California Highway Patrol (CHP), Richard J. Mills III, 40, of Kelseyville was traveling on Highway 175 toward Cobb at approximately 3:30 p.m. at unknown speed when he drifted across the roadway and crashed into a tree. The truck continued moving and struck another tree head-on before the vehicle came to rest in the middle of the roadway.

CHP officers and Kelseyville Fire District responded to the scene. Mills suffered head injuries and injuries to his right leg. It was unclear as to whether he was wearing his seatbelt.

Mills was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence. Mills” injuries were serious enough to be airlifted by REACH to Santa Rosa Memorial Hospital. Domby said Santa Rosa CHP will retrieve a blood-alcohol sample from Mills to determine whether he was driving under the influence. The cause of the crash is under investigation.
