NICE — On Monday a 31-year-old Nice man was arrested by Lake County Sheriff”s Office (LCSO) deputies on charges of assault with a deadly weapon and for violating the conditions of his parole.

LCSO deputies were dispatched to an address on Manzanita Drive in Nice for a report of an assault with a deadly weapon.

When deputies arrived they contacted the male victim, who was being attended to by Station 85 medical personnel for injuries to his head. He was later transported by air ambulance to a hospital for medical treatment.

During their investigation, deputies learned there was an altercation in the street involving the victim and four other people. The victim was in a vehicle traveling on Manzanita Drive when the four people, that included three women and one man started throwing rocks at the vehicle. The victim exited the vehicle and asked what was going on. Two of the women allegedly began punching the victim, who put his arms in front of his face in an attempt to protect himself. The man who was walking with the three women was later identified as Kevin Hoffert of Nice. Hoffert allegedly struck the victim in the head with a baseball bat. The victim fell to the ground and Hoffert allegedly struck the victim on the head a second time with the baseball bat.

Hoffert was later located at an address on Dawes Street in Nice, where he was arrested on charges of assault with a deadly weapon and for violating the conditions of his parole. He was transported to the Lake County Hill Road Correctional Facility and booked. Hoffert remains in the custody of the Lake County Sheriff without bail.
