CLEARLAKE — Second Sunday Cinema will present “Crash Course” by Chris Martenson during three consecutive Sunday evenings starting this Sunday. Doors open at 5:30 p.m. at the Clearlake Community United Methodist Church (UMC), located at 14521 Pearl Ave. The film begins at 6 p.m.

Martenson”s course focuses on three “E”s”: the economy, energy sources and environment, in the context of a fourth “E”: exponential growth.

According to Martenson, the global economy requires exponential growth due to compound interest. People”s way of life also requires ever more energy, mostly from petroleum products, limited in supply. As a result of these two facts, the environment is under severe stress, and people face a very real crash in the not too distant future.

Martenson, who is the father of three young children, said he faces this future with exhilaration, another significant “E,” pointing out that people will do a better job of thriving if they are prepared. Martenson”s “Crash Course” helps viewers focus on the changes ahead and on making positive, community-based preparations.

Admission to all three evenings are free. “Crash Course” is being co-sponsored with the Clearlake Community UMC.

This month, SSC completes five full years of free films. For more information call 889-7355.
