HIDDEN VALLEY LAKE — A kitchen was destroyed in structure fire in a single-family-home on Wednesday evening in Hidden Valley Lake.
According to Southlake County Fire Protection District (SLCFPD) Battalion Chief Scott Upton, about 50 percent of the home sustained smoke and fire damage; however, the structural integrity of the residence is still intact.
Units responded to the 19800 block of Bear Valley Road near Mountain Meadow South at approximately 7:45 p.m. Incident command reported the fire “knocked down” at 8:26 p.m.
“We”ve had a rash of structure fires; it”s just a reminder for people to make sure their smoke alarms are in working condition,” Upton said.
Additionally, Upton advises residents to be cautious, especially when conducting open-burning operations. He said there is a lot of dry vegetation and strong winds are forecasted in the coming days.
SLCFPD/CAL FIRE responded to the fire with three engines, a rescue unit, a battalion chief and 16 firefighters. Mutual aide from the nearest engine was requested. Lake County Fire and Kelseyville Fire Protection districts responded to the request; however, mutual aide was reduced prior to either engine”s arrival to station coverage at the Hidden Valley Lake station. Lake County Fire continued in to provide the coverage assistance and the Kelseyville engine canceled and returned to its district.
No injuries were sustained in the fire, which remains under investigation.
