LAKEPORT — Two men accused of murdering a toddler and shooting five other people at a Clearlake home in June are set to go to trial in two weeks.

Paul W. Braden, 21, and Orlando J. Lopez, 24, face 15 felonies, including murder, five counts attempted murder and six counts of assault with a firearm on a person.

The charges stem from a June 18 incident during which authorities allege the two men opened fire on a crowd of people, killing 4-year-old Skyler Rapp and injuring others.

Braden and Lopez have pleaded not guilty to all counts.

During a court appearance Thursday morning, Judge Richard C. Martin scheduled both men to stand trial on Jan. 19 in Department 1 at the Lake County Courthouse.

Doris L. Shockley, a retired Yolo County Superior Court judge, is set to preside over the trial, which will occur in the same courtroom but feature two separate juries. Lake County District Attorney Don Anderson estimated the proceedings would last eight to 10 weeks.
