MIDDLETOWN — The Middletown Mustangs didn”t need it, but it was a sight to behold.
Anthony Guzman buried a shot that covered three-quarters of the court as the final seconds of the third period ticked away Tuesday night in Middletown, where the Mustangs routed the Fort Bragg Timberwolves 42-11 in North Central League I junior varsity boys” basketball action.
While Middletown had a tough time getting its offense untracked in the first half against Fort Bragg — the Mustangs led 16-6 at the intermission — coach Jon Hoogendoorn said he couldn”t be displeased with his team after allowing only 11 points.
“Our goal was to hold them to 20 and we did that,” Hoogendoorn said.
Guzman”s long 3-pointer paved the way for a fourth quarter during which the Mustangs turned the game into a full-fledged rout.
“It kind of got us going a little bit,” Hoogendoorn said.
Cody Chorjel finished with 13 points and Wyatt Hall had eight to pace the Mustangs. Guzman added seven.

Clear Lake 67, Willits 37
At Lakeport, Charlie Marquez had a rare double-double of 13 points and 10 steals to propel the Clear Lake Cardinals past the Willits Wolverines.
Marquez, a shooting guard, also had three assists and two rebounds as the Cardinals improved to 3-0 in the NCL I standings and 13-1 overall.
Clear Lake”s press defense turned a close game — 40-33 after three quarters — into a blowout in the fourth period as the Cardinals outscored the Wolverines 27-4.
“We started getting some easy baskets off the press,” Clear Lake coach Jeremy Hopkins said.
“Today he came out and gave his best effort,” Hopkins said of Marquez, who had a handful of his steals during the Cardinals” fourth-quarter surge.
Damian Lopez finished with 10 points, Brandon Helms added nine and Ootie Lane had eight for the Cardinals.
Kelseyville 46, Cloverdale 40
At Cloverdale, Dustin Martin hit a pair of 3-pointers in the fourth quarter and Andrew Vonwol and Justin Johnson made a handful of clutch free throws down the stretch as the Kelseyville Knights beat Cloverdale to improve to 2-1 in the NCL I standings.
Martin finished with a team-high 21 points and Vonwol added eight.
JV girls
Willits 48, Clear Lake 44 (OT)
At Willits, trailing 25-10 at halftime, the Clear Lake JV girls rallied to tie Willits at 39 by the end of regulation before losing the NCL I game in overtime.
Aliza Atkins had a big game for the Cardinals with 24 points while teammates Joleca Augustine and Logan Robinson added 11 and six points, respectively.
Lower Lake 35, St. Helena 13
At St. Helena, Kayla Meadows scored 12 points and the Lower Lake Trojans beat the St. Helena Saints in NCL I action.
