KELSEYVILLE — A controlled burn was whipped by winds and spread Friday on a private vineyard on Highway 175 near the intersection with Red Hills Road, according to Joe Huggins, Battalion Chief at Kelseyville Fire District (KFD).
Huggins said the fire began at approximately 12:30 p.m. The winds sent the fire under a tree canopy where a small shed was located as well as a light amount of brush. The fire destroyed the shed but spared another shed located nearby.
KFD sent two fire engines. In addition, Huggins said Lakeport Fire District and South Lake County Fire Protection District each sent one fire engine. CAL FIRE sent one fire engine and a battalion chief. The California Department of Forestry Fire Crews came from Konocti Conservation Camp to clear brush and to prevent the wind from spreading any hot spots.
The fire was contained by approximately 1:45 p.m.
