As a long-time resident of Lake County and a two-term member of the Lake County Grand Jury, I”d like to offer my opinion about the conduct and service rendered to the county by Mr. Kelly Cox, whose impending retirement was just announced.
Most of the residents of this county are unaware of the impact this one individual has had on their lives during the last 32 years.
Space prohibits a listing of all his accomplishments during his tenure as County Administrator. The one thing we all should be aware of, and applaud him for, is his stewardship of the budget.
Almost single-handedly he has kept the county operating in the black and, in fact, has built up a generous surplus, which will probably come in very handy when we face the hard decisions that will no doubt be coming during the next few years.
In my humble opinion, the Board of Supervisors will probably have to hire at least two and possibly three individuals to provide the same level of service that has been the norm for this outstanding public servant.
Enjoy your retirement Mr. Cox. You have earned it. For my part, I can only wish you a fair wind and a following sea.
Thank you for your service.
