LAKE COUNTY — The Lakeport Police Department (LPD) is investigating a possible acid bomb explosion from Wednesday night.
Officers responded to the area of the 2000 block of Hartley Street in Lakeport at about 9 p.m. Wednesday after receiving a report of a gunshot heard, LPD Sgt. Kevin Odom said.
The officers reportedly found remnants of a plastic soda bottle.
“Based on evidence at the scene, officers determined the remains of the bottle appeared to have been a possible ”acid bomb,”” Odom said.
A witness reported seeing two boys, a girl and a vehicle in the area at the time of the incident, Odom said. Authorities received no additional information about the three children but believe they could have been involved.
Investigators searched the area and found no other devices, Odom said.
“No immediate threat to the public is apparent,” he added.
Local law enforcement responded to a different reported bomb scare Thursday afternoon but found the noise actually originated from a sprinkler alarm.
The California Highway Patrol arrived in Kelseyville near Clark Drive around noon after receiving a call about a suspicious device in the area, Officer Kory Reynolds said.
First responders determined the sound came from an agricultural sprinkler system alarm, Reynolds said. A bomb squad from Napa was en route but canceled once officers made the discovery, he added.
