LAKEPORT ? The Lake County Arts Council”s Winter Music Fest, “Red White and Blues ? and All That Jazz,” takes place at 7 p.m. Feb. 11 and 2 p.m. Feb. 12 at the Soper-Reese Community Theatre, located at 275 S. Main St. in Lakeport.
Inspiration for the new format came from artist and dancer Diane Trebly-Stawicki who shared an original piece of music written by her mother, Margo, to her husband during World War II. Margo, who is 90, will not attend the performance but her song will be sung by her daughter.
“With so many of our young people ?over there,” we wanted to recognize their service to us today as well as the service of so many in conflicts past,” Shelby Posada, LCAC executive director, said. “Music and humor are a bridge between people and no one helped breach the distance between soldiers away from home and their loved ones more than Glen Miller, Bob Hope and so many entertainers who gave of their time and talent to bring a little of home to cheer these service people abroad.”
According to Posada, the event features performances by a diverse group of musicians with music from past to the present. It includes a performance by dancers from Antoinette”s School of Dance to “Almost Like Being in Love.”
Joey Luiz, mayor of Clearlake, will be the host for the evening. Cindy Strong will direct the performances and Andy Rosoff will provide piano accompaniment.
Add to that “Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy” and other numbers by Kathleen Escude, Cathy Mallow and Kathy O”Connell.
