LOWER LAKE — Sara Sanders scored a season-high 13 points, sparking the Lower Lake Trojans in a 47-34 victory over the St. Helena Saints in North Central League I varsity girls” basketball action Friday night in Lower Lake.

Lower Lake remained in the thick of the league race with its eighth win in 10 games. The Trojans also improved to 17-5, matching their win total from last season (17-10).

In a game that was tied 17-all at halftime, Sanders came through in the second half, scoring all 13 of her points, including eight in the third quarter as the Trojans moved in front 31-25 by quarter”s end.

“Sara stepped up big time,” Lower Lake coach Jim Salmina said. “She led us in scoring, but she also had four steals, four assists and six rebounds. That”s what a senior has to do.”

Lower Lake”s def-ense held St. Helena”s top player, Holle Depina, in check most of the game. She finished with 13, more than seven below her season average.

“We struggled early offensively but our defense did a good job,” Salmina said.

April White had eight points and 13 rebounds for the Trojans and Danacka Whittington had 10 rebounds to go along with four points.
