UPPER LAKE — Kat Edmonds scored six of her team-leading 15 points in the first quarter and the Upper Lake Cougars knocked off Trinity Prep of Napa 54-36 in a non-league varsity girls” basketball game Saturday at Upper Lake.

Edmonds also had 14 rebounds and seven assists as the Cougars improved to 10-13 on the season.

“She moved the ball around quite a bit,” Upper Lake coach Mike Smith said of his senior star. “Kat pretty much established herself early and she had a lot of help from (Ashley) Lovrin and (Kelsey) Pearl.”

Lovrin finished with 13 points and Pearl added 12, including a pair of 3-pointers.

The Cougars also received solid play from freshman LaShaye Taylor and Teya Hernandez, according to Smith. Both players finished with six points.

“Offensively we did what we needed to,” Smith said of the 17-8 lead the Cougars held after one quarter.

Marisa Streett”s 23 points, including five 3-pointers, paced Trinity Prep (17-4).

Upper Lake hosts Roseland Prep tonight in league action.
