MIDDLETOWN — Team effort is what Anthony Bazzano was looking for and team effort is exactly what the Middletown High School junior varsity girls” basketball coach received Friday in a 37-21 victory over the visiting Fort Bragg Timberwolves.

Heather Huston scored 10 points with four steals, Allegra Maceda added 10 points and nine rebounds while Madison Hicks had nine points and nine rebounds in the North Central League I win.

“A complete team effort,” Bazzano said of the victory. “We lost to them on the road the first time we played.”

Middletown worked its way to the free-throw line for 31 shots and made 19.

“The girls did a good job of knocking down free throws,” Bazzano said.

The Mustangs host St. Helena tonight at 5:30 p.m.

Clear Lake 35, Willits 34

At Lakeport, Logan Robinson banked in a long two-pointer from near the top of the key as time expired, lifting the Clear Lake Cardinals to a thrilling NCL I win over the Willits Wolverines, who held a 34-33 lead in the final seconds.

Clear Lake tried to work the ball inside to Madison Wynacht for a final shot, but a well-covered Wynacht kicked the ball back outside to Robinson, whose shot was in midair when the buzzer sounded.

“We were all jumping up and down,” Clear Lake coach Angie Bell said. “It was a perfect shot, it couldn”t have been any better.”

The game-winner was Robinson”s only basket in the game. She scored her first two points on free throws in the second quarter and didn”t score again until the last shot.

Joleca Augustine”s 10 points paced the Cardinals and Aliza Atkins added nine.

Clear Lake is 6-4 in league play.

Cloverdale 28, Kelseyville 25

At Kelseyville, Cloverdale rallied from a 21-17 deficit after three quarters to edge Kelseyville in NCL I action.

Amanda Ahart”s eight points paced Kelseyville, Mary McCallister had six and Ashley Dunia five.

Lower Lake 37, St. Helena 22

At Lower Lake, even minus two starters, the Lower Lake Trojans turned back St. Helena as Ashley Alexander warmed up from the field, scoring a team-leading 15 points.

Sonoma Academy 39, Upper Lake 25

At Upper Lake, Sonoma Academy defeated Upper Lake in NCL II play despite 12 points from Upper Lake”s Skylar Orozco.

Middletown 54, Fort Bragg 18

At Fort Bragg, the Middletown Mustangs took all the suspense out of this one early, rolling past the Fort Bragg Timberwolves in NCL I action.

Middletown (9-1) remains a game behind undefeated Clear Lake in the NCL I standings.

Cody Chorjel”s 13 points and 12 each from Anthony Guzman and Brandon Rannells powered the Mustangs, who had a 42-16 lead by halftime.

“We played well,” Middletown coach Jon Hoogendoorn said.

Kelseyville 53, Cloverdale 50

At Kelseyville, in a game where the two teams were never separated by much, the Kelseyville Knights beat the Cloverdale Eagles behind 18 points from Dustin Martin and 10 from Cesar Medina.

“It was a close game throughout,” Kelseyville coach Richard Martin said. “Their post game tore us up inside.”

Kelseyville rallied from a 25-21 halftime deficit.

Clear Lake 73, Willits 28

At Willits, four Clear Lake players scored in double figures and a fifth just missed as the Cardinals improved to 10-0 in the NCL I standings with a win over the Willits Wolverines.

“We were just running the ball down their throats,” Clear Lake coach Jeremy Hopkins said of the 57 first-half points scored by the Cardinals (21-1), winners of 16 in a row. “The offense was great and the defense also played well. Our press … most teams aren”t getting it across half court.”

Brandon Helms led the Clear Lake scoring parade with 15 points, Damian Lopez finished with 12, Charlie Marquez added 11 and David Mansell had 10. Ootie Lane added another nine points.
