CLEARLAKE — Volunteers are being sought to assist with re-opening of the Lake County Youth Center, which formally operated under the umbrella of the Lake County Community Action Agency (LCCAA). Lake Community Pride Foundation has taken the youth center under its wing and is now preparing to move forward.

A community meeting is scheduled for 4 p.m. Monday at the youth center, located at 14750 Golf Ave. in Clearlake. Those interested in contributing to the betterment of local youth are encouraged to attend.

“We have been working hard to close down the LCCAA and move forward with the youth center,” Joyce Overton said. “Due to repairs and upgrades that the building needed, we have been unable to open the doors for after school programs. We are now ready to move forward and renovate the center. We are asking the community to step forward and help our youth have a safe place to gather.”

Overton said the youth center will help keep children safe while it provides them with activities to keep them out of trouble”s way. “It will provide help for the youth with homework, activities such as pool, ping pong, video games, arts and crafts and special classes such as theater, summer camping trips, fishing, mechanics and many other activities,” she said.

Volunteers are needed. Special needs include electricians, plumbers, concrete and general construction work. Volunteers to help keep the building clean of materials and feed the volunteers are also needed.
