LAKEPORT — City police recently closed the investigation into the death of a man found unresponsive in a creek bed nearly a month ago after an autopsy revealed the Lakeport resident probably succumbed to cardiac arrest, a department spokesman said Wednesday.

Emergency personnel responded to the 200 block of South Brush Street on the morning of Jan. 17 after receiving a report of a man down in the creek bed.

Paramedics soon determined the person, later deemed to be 65-year-old Charles R. Goodrich, was dead, the Lakeport Police Department (LPD) announced at the time.

LPD Sgt. Kevin Odom announced Wednesday that a County of Lake autopsy report found Goodrich most likely died from sudden cardiac arrest related to a pre-existing medical condition.

The LPD obtained a copy of the report Tuesday, according to Odom.

“Based on our investigation and the autopsy, this investigation has been closed,” Odom said.
