CLEARLAKE — The Tuleyome Organization will host a community meeting regarding its current effort to create the Berryessa Snow Mountain National Conservation Area, 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at the Clearlake Senior/Community Center on Bowers Road in Clearlake. Congressman Mike Thompson (D-St. Helena) will discuss the introduction of legislation to permanently protect the region. Response for attendance is requested at amartinez@tuleyome.org.
The proposed area stretches 100 miles along the inner coastal range of Northern California encompassing 358,643 acres of publicly-managed land. According to the Tuleyome Organization, establishment of a NCA will improve coordination between federal agencies, protect essential migratory corridors for wildlife adapting their ranges to changing climate; help maintain clean water; and provide additional federal funding opportunities for conservation protection, invasive plant eradication, recreation management and a coordinated multi-agency fire management plan.
