LAKEPORT — A Kelseyville man charged with killing two people in a rollover crash last summer waived his right to a preliminary hearing Thursday, moving his case closer to trial.

Jacobo Lopez Mejia, 24, faces five counts, including two felony charges of gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated, in connection with the fatal crash along Merritt Road in Kelseyville.

Authorities allege he was behind the wheel of a Ford F-150 on the night of Aug. 18 when he lost control of the truck, which then went off of the road and overturned several times.

Two of the six occupants died at the scene.

The case was set for preliminary examination Thursday morning, but before the proceedings began, Lopez Mejia waived his right to the hearing.

Lopez Mejia, who remains in custody at the Lake County Hill Road Correctional Facility, will next appear in court Feb. 27 for arraignment, according to senior deputy district attorney John Langan. A trial date could be scheduled at that time.
