KELSEYVILLE — Trying for a 14-0 league season, the Lower Lake Trojans couldn”t clear that last hurdle on Thursday, falling to the Kelseyville Knights 37-33 in the North Central League I finale for both of these junior varsity girls” basketball teams at Kelseyville.
Linda Tuell”s nine points led the Trojans, who end up 13-1. Ashly Alexhander and Allison Lahr finished with seven points apiece.
Ashley Dunia sparked Kelseyville in the upset with 16 points and Amanda Ahart added 15 despite having to leave the game in the first half after taking an elbow to the nose. She returned in the second half.
“We gave up a 10-point lead with her (Ahart) out,” Kelseyville coach Tony Brown said.
Kelseyville took a 30-22 lead into the fourth quarter.
“It was close off and on,” Brown added of the season finale.
The Knights close at 5-9 in league and 13-12 overall.
In other JV girls” action Thursday:
Middletown 46, Clear Lake 29
At Middletown, Madi Hicks scored 12 points and had five steals and three rebounds as the Middletown Mustangs concluded the season with a rout of Clear Lake.
Nicole Corsetti added seven points and 12 rebounds while Heather Huston had nine points and eight steals for the Mustangs.
Middletown ends up 10-4 in league play and 17-9 overall.
“I couldn”t be more proud of the girls, especially the way we finished things up,” Middletown coach Anthony Bazzano said. “We finally got Madi back toward the end of the season (at wing) and we just ripped through the last six games.”
Bazzano said he sees a bright future for his players.
“They”ve got a lot of good stuff ahead if they stick together and keep on working hard,” he said.

Lower Lake 47, Kelseyville 45
At Lower Lake, the Kelseyville Knights made a 15-8 run in the fourth quarter to make a game of it, but a turnover in the final seconds sealed the victory for the Trojans in the season finale for both teams.
Lower Lake led 21-18 at halftime.
Ian Stiles scored 18 points and Johny Egger had 10 for Lower Lake. Dustin Martin powered Kelseyville with 12 points and Andrew Vonwal added 10.
