KELSEYVILLE — The Lower Lake Trojans and Kelseyville Knights traded nightmares on Thursday night during the North Central League I finale for both of these varsity girls” basketball teams.
Lower Lake”s nightmare was a 19-13 first half that favored Kelseyville. The Knights” nightmare was the entire third quarter — they were outscored 21-0 in the period. In the end, Lower Lake came out on top by a comfortable 51-28 margin.
In a physical game that allowed both teams to mix it up, the Trojans (10-4 league, 19-7 overall) prevailed on the strength of a 38-9 second half.
Kelseyville (1-13, 4-19) made only six field goals after the first quarter, all 3-pointers — three in the second quarter and three in the fourth quarter.
The difference in the game was the lopsided third period, one in which April White and Kelsie Shoffeitt combined to score 11 of Lower Lake”s 21 points.
White finished with a team-best 12 points and 12 rebounds while Shoffeitt added a double-double of her own with 10 points and 11 rebounds.
Mary Brown”s 12 points — all on 3-pointers — paced Kelseyville and Amanda Spitzer added nine points, the result of three 3-pointers.
While the Knights” season is over, the Lower Lake Trojans will await Sunday”s North Coast Section at-large and seeding meeting to see if they have qualified for the Division IV postseason field.
In other girls” action Thursday:
Clear Lake 48, Middletown 44
At Middletown, Jessica Asbury”s 3-pointer at the end of the third quarter erased a 32-31 Middletown lead and seemed to provide the spark that lifted the Clear Lake Cardinals to a season-ending victory against the Mustangs in NCL I action.
“I just felt like Clear Lake wanted it a bit more than we did,” Middletown coach Tony Hart said. “We just didn”t go after it and they did.”
Asbury scored 19 points, including a 4-for-6 game at the free-throw line, to spark Clear Lake (5-9, 8-12). Morgan Psalmonds added 11 points, including three 3-pointers.
Rachel Sutton”s 13 points powered the Mustangs (5-9, 8-17), Kayla Farr added nine points and Amber Ramponi had eight.
The game was tight most of the way with Middletown up 12-8 after one quarter and 23-22 at halftime.
