LAKEPORT — The Lakeport Police Department (LPD) recently learned it would receive a state grant for operations directed at stopping minors from obtaining alcohol, a spokesman said Tuesday.

The California Department of Alcoholic Beverage Control (ABC) awarded the LPD a $2,500 special-enforcement grant to conduct efforts within the city limits, Officer Destry Henderson said in a statement.

The operations will be part of the ABC”s Minor Decoy/Shoulder Tap Grant Project, funded by the California Office of Traffic Safety through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, Henderson said.

The project period began Feb. 1 and runs through June 30, with the first LPD operation set for March, he added.

The LPD also plans to host a Licensee Education on Alcohol and Drugs (LEAD) class at an undetermined date, Henderson said.

Anyone with additional questions about the grant or the project can contact Henderson at 263-5491 or dhenderson@lakeportpolice.org.
