LAKEPORT — City police are investigating a weekend incident during which an unidentified man in his 50s or 60s tried to persuade two children to get inside his military-style pickup, a department spokesman said Tuesday.
The Lakeport Police Department (LPD) received a report about the incident Saturday at approximately 5 p.m., according to Sgt. Dale Stoebe.
The man, described as white with a mustache and gray and black combed-over hair, allegedly attempted unsuccessfully to lure the children into his vehicle on Lakeshore Boulevard within the city limits.
The man fled the area northbound on Lakeshore Boulevard after the children notified their parent, Stoebe said.
The LPD did not find the man Saturday and seeks information about the man”s identity or his whereabouts, Stoebe said. Anyone who sees the man, the vehicle or a similar incident should contact law enforcement immediately, he added.
The LPD can be reached at 263-5491.
Stoebe described the truck as an olive-green, 1960s-era military-style pickup with a light-tan canvas top and large, off-road tires. It could have been a Jeep M715 1 1/4-ton military cargo truck.
