LAKE COUNTY — Congressman Mike Thompson (D-St. Helena) announced Wednesday he officially filed for re-election for the new Fifth Congressional District.

The district includes the southwest portion of Lake County as well as all or parts of Contra Costa, Napa, Solano and Sonoma counties.

“Hard-working families across our district are looking for a fair shake. They want to know that if they work hard and play by the rules then they will be able to put food on the table and gas in their car, make their mortgage payment, send their kids to college and pay for retirement,” Thompson said in a statement.

“That”s the fair shake I am fighting for in Washington. It”s what our families, children and grandchildren deserve. And it”s what made America great,” he added.

Thompson, who is seeking an eighth term in the U.S. House of Representatives, also shared his thoughts about losing part of Lake County.

“I have had the honor and great pleasure to represent Lake County for the entire time I have served in public office,” he said. “While I am sad the redistricting commission choose to split Lake County between two congressional districts, I am thankful that half of Lake County will remain in our district.”

He continued, “I don”t believe you can work for half a county, so I look forward to continuing our work to strengthen all of Lake County”s communities and deliver solutions to the challenges we face.”

Lake County Supervisor Anthony Farrington, who endorsed Thompson, described the congressman and his staff as “responsive, accessible and professional.”

“Even during these times where our country remains divided by partisan politics, Mike continues to work with and in fact endorse local representatives despite their party affiliation,” Farrington stated in an email Wednesday.

Thompson would appear on the Nov. 6 ballot.
