How big is the national debt? How about $15,300,000,000,000? Or 15.3 million or 15,300,000 x 1,000,000 = $15.3 trillion?

I saw on the Internet that if dollars were laid end to end they would reach the sun; a distance of 92,955,822.5 miles. A few more years of spending at the present rate and the trail of bucks would reach back to earth. Mr. Simpson of Simpson/Bowls Commission said on CSPAN that if we spent a dollar a second we wouldn”t spend $15 trillion in the next 32,000 years. Can an average person of sound mind get their head around these numbers? I have a problem grasping them. Yet some politicians throw them around like a raindrop in the ocean. We as a society are living far beyond our means, high on the hog as my dad would say. We have no intent of paying off our national debt. We need our welfare checks, SSI, Social Security, retirement benefits paid by the government, free housing, food stamps, free medical, free dental and free cell phones. Free, free, free. What”s in it for me? We are enslaving our children and grandchildren to pay it for us; the greatest generation that worked 25-percent of life working for the taxman while enslaving our offspring to a 50-percent estimate to the tax man. Slavery was outlawed 160 years ago but has crept back into the United States in the form of income taxes. One could reasonably argue that we need to provide for the poor. To that I acquiesce, but with caveats.
