CLEARLAKE — A man suspected of vandalizing parked vehicles and a gas station convenience store was arrested Thursday morning.
According to Clearlake Police Department (CPD) Sgt. Rodd Joseph, an officer was dispatched at approximately 4:30 a.m. to a report of a man on a bicycle vandalizing parked vehicles at Winding Road Motors on Lakeshore Drive. The officer noticed one of the cars at the dealership had a shattered window. The officer reportedly heard screaming coming from the Flyers Gas Station nearby and drove over to investigate. The officer learned a man on a bicycle reportedly stole merchandise and food from the store, according to Joseph. It was reported the suspect was last seen heading behind the business toward West 40th Avenue.
The officer located a man behind Flyers who was pushing a bicycle and holding a large amount of food and merchandise, Joseph said. When the man saw the officer approaching, he reportedly dumped the merchandise and got on the bike and fled the scene. Joseph said the officer caught up to the man and used the patrol vehicle to stop the man and arrest him.
The man was identified as Anthony Wilburn, 26, of Redding. According to Joseph, Wilburn was a wanted parolee out of Mendocino County. It was reported evidence at the parked vehicle linked Wilburn to the crime. The merchandise and food Wilburn dumped was reportedly determined to have been stolen from Flyers.
Wilburn was allegedly intoxicated and uncooperative with the officer. He was charged with parole violation, public intoxication, resisting arrest, vandalism, riding a bicycle under the influence of alcohol and possession of stolen property. He was booked into the Lake County Hill Road Correctional Facility.
