CLEARLAKE — Two men suspected of breaking car windows with baseball bats were arrested Thursday morning.
According to Clearlake Police Department (CPD) Sgt. Rodd Joseph, officers were dispatched at approximately 2:30 a.m. to the area of Lakeshore Drive and Lower Lakeshore Drive on a report of two men breaking car windows with baseball bats. Joseph said the officers arrived quickly and were notified of an audible burglary alarm that had just activated at the Parkview Market on Lakeshore Drive.
Officers found the front glass door of the market shattered. Joseph said the business owner met with officers within minutes and reviewed the store”s video surveillance. Officers were reportedly able to see two subjects breaking the window with baseball bats a short time earlier.
The officers began checking the area and located two men near the intersection of Manakee and Huntington avenues reportedly matching the descriptions of the suspects from the video surveillance. One suspect fled from the officers on foot while the other suspect was detained without further incident, according to Joseph. After a brief search, the other suspect was detained, Joseph said.
Officers reportedly discovered six parked vehicles with shattered windows in the immediate area. Joseph said the damage to these vehicles was consistent with the damage found at the store and both suspects are believed responsible.
The two men were indentified as Chad Savok, 19, and Donald Stewart, 21, both of Clearlake. They were arrested on charges of felony vandalism. Stewart was also charged with resisting arrest. They were booked into the Lake County Hill Road Correctional Facility.
