LAKEPORT — A 27-year-old Nice man was struck by a car while riding his bicycle in Lakeport Monday.

The collision occurred at the three-way intersection of Lakeshore Boulevard, North High Street and 20th Street at approximately 4:42 p.m., according to Officer Jarvis Leishman with the Lakeport Police Department.

Leishman said the man, who was not identified, thought vehicles traveling through the intersection had to go left onto High Street and was unaware drivers could continue straight onto 20th Street.

The driver of the vehicle, who was not identified, said he had slowed down to approximately seven-to-eight mph while approaching the intersection because some children crossed the street, according to Leishman.

The man rode his bicycle across the street into the path of the car, Leishman said. The driver said he did not see the man until the last second and struck him on his right leg, ejecting him from the bike, according to Leishman.

The man landed on the ground and complained of pain to his right leg, Leishman said. He was taken to Sutter Lakeside Hospital to be treated. Leishman said drugs and alcohol were not considered a factor in the collision.
