CLEARLAKE — Clearlake Interim Police Chief Craig Clausen was chosen as one of 30 law enforcement executives from across the country to participate in the ninth “Leading by Legacy” training, hosted by the International Associations of Chiefs of Police (IACP).
The two-and-a-half day training takes place in Phoenix, Ariz. The goal of the training is to enhance the leadership and management skill set of each training participant and provide strategies to promote leadership development within their own agency. Such strategies lead to agency stability and delivery of quality services to the community each participant serves.
Participants explore leadership and management issues on motivation, managing change, succession planning and engaging the community, among other topics. Additional attention centers on accountability and an exchange of ideas regarding current law enforcement leadership challenges and concerns.
The participants are engaged in the development of action plans throughout the training in order to adopt new strategies for proactive implementation of leadership strategies upon returning to their department.
Expenses for participants to attend the training are covered under a grant to the IACP from the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act through the Bureau of Justice Assistance at the U.S. Department of Justice.
The IACP is the world”s oldest and largest nonprofit membership organization of police executives, with more than 22,500 members in 108 different countries. For more information, visit www.theiacp.org.
