LAKE COUNTY — The Board of Supervisors (BOS) delayed discussing Sheriff Frank Rivero”s request for county-funded private legal counsel on Tuesday in light of Rivero being reportedly ill.

Rivero has asked for a lawyer because he said the District Attorney”s Office is investigating a nearly four-year-old shooting he was involved in while working as a Lake County Sheriff”s Office deputy.

District Attorney Don Anderson has not commented publicly about the nature of what his department may be looking into.

County Counsel Anita Grant determined her office would have a conflict and could not represent either party.

Grant has recommended the BOS allow Rivero to retain a private attorney.

The BOS was set to discuss the issue for a third consecutive week Tuesday, but Undersheriff Pat Turturici told the supervisors that Rivero could not attend the meeting because of an illness.

District 4 Supervisor Anthony Farrington was also absent.

The BOS decided to delay the conversation until next week, setting it for March 6 at 9:40 a.m.
