LOWER LAKE — Zef Roofener struck out 13 in five innings and also had a big day at the plate Tuesday as the Lower Lake Trojans opened a new varsity baseball season with a 12-1 six-inning victory over the Calistoga Wildcats at Lower Lake.

“He pitched extremely well,” said John Miller, who picked up a win in his Lower Lake coaching debut.

Roofener, a junior, allowed just one hit and the only Calistoga run. He also walked one.

At the plate, Roofener, batting in the second spot, went 3-for-5 with two RBIs and four runs. Jon Duncan (1-for-3) knocked in four runs for the Trojans and Jonny Meza (1-for-3) drove in two more.

Lower Lake scored eight times in the bottom of the sixth to break open a 4-1 game.

Ryan Dahneke, VJ Lopez and Jeff Davis also had hits for the Trojans.

Working in relief of Roofener, Luis Martinez struck out one and allowed one hit while working a scoreless top of the sixth.

The Trojans return to action Friday at Upper Lake beginning at 3:30 p.m.
