LAKEPORT — Lake County Sheriff”s Office (LCSO) deputies arrested a man in connection with a possible arson on Friday.

Fire personnel from Lakeport and Kelseyville responded to a mobile home fire at 2620 Mission Rancheria Road near Konocti Vista Casino at approximately 5:05 p.m. The fire destroyed the mobile home trailer. Lakeport Fire District Chief Ken Wells reported the occupant, John Mitchell, 48, was unavailable immediately after the fire.

According to LCSO Captain Chris Macedo, deputies responded to a possible arson at approximately 6:13 p.m. They met with Wells, who informed them a bystander told him the fire was intentionally set, according to Macedo.

Deputies met with Mitchell, who owned the burned mobile home trailer. Mitchell told deputies that he was despondent recently and wanted to get rid of “some of the bad things” in his life, Macedo said.

Mitchell allegedly started the fire by igniting a blanket inside the dwelling, stating that no accelerants were used and that he had no intention of harming anyone, according to Macedo.

Mitchell was arrested on charges of maliciously setting fire to an inhabited structure and was booked into the Lake County Hill Road Correctional Facility.
