LOWER LAKE — There were a lot of firsts for the Lower Lake Trojans in a 14-6 softball win over the Calistoga Wildcats on a chilly Tuesday in Lower Lake.

It was the first game of the season for Lower Lake, the first game played on the Trojans” new field and the first game for rookie coach Chris Emberson, who is also the school”s athletic director.

“We put the ball in play, played catch and did the things we needed to do,” Emberson said in assessing the Trojans” first effort of 2012.

On the team”s new field, which is next to the baseball diamond, Emberson said, “It”s beautiful. We put a lot of time and effort into it. The infield is the best. The infield is perfect.”

Staked to an 8-0 lead after one inning, Amanda Graf pitched all seven innings for the win, striking out 12 and walking two. She allowed three earned runs.

While the Wildcats out-hit the Trojans 10-5, Lower Lake took advantage of a combined 25 walks/hit batsmen to move along the basepaths. Katlyn Mintel went 2-for-3 with a RBI and Selena Ledesma went 1-for-3 with two RBIs.

Shelbie Harris and Nicole Spooner had Lower Lake”s other hits. Harris and Emma Diener added RBIs.

Lower Lake is home Thursday against Elsie Allen and away Friday against Upper Lake. Both games start at 3:30 p.m.
