UKIAH — Short story author and editor Stefanie Freele will read at 7 p.m. Thursday in Room 5310 in the Center for Visual and Performing Arts at Mendocino College.

The event is the second in the spring reading series that will lead up to Mendocino College Litfest on May 19. The event is free and is sponsored by the Friends of the Mendocino College Library, an affiliate group of the Mendocino College Foundation.

Freele was born and raised in Wisconsin and currently lives in the Northwest. Her short story collection, “Feeding Strays” (Lost Horse Press), was a finalist for both the Book of the Year Award and the 2010 Binghamton University John Gardner Fiction Book Award.

“Surrounded by Water,” a second collection of short stories, will be released by Press 53 in the spring.

Freele is also the fiction editor of the Los Angeles Review. She has a master of fine arts degree in fiction from the Northwest Institute of Literary Arts: Whidbey Writers Workshop in Washington. For more information, visit www.mendocino.edu or call 468-3051.
