UPDATED:

It”s a misalignment of commonly avowed values to have cars going opposite directions on the same road. Two-way traffic became customary in the days of horse-drawn vehicles, and now we have motor powered vehicles approaching one another 50 to 80 mph and passing inches from one another.

The horrendous results of the inevitable collisions don”t register in our considerations; they always happen to someone else.

A solution to this problem would be to build roads with two or more lanes going one way, with frequent two-lane, one-way connections to a two-or-more-lane, one-way road going in the opposite direction.

That would allow for passing on the main roads and the connections would allow handy accommodations for drivers who decide to turn around and go back.

It would also save many lives and provide employment for many workers, thus effecting circulation of money, the quintessence of prosperity in a country that produces more than it uses.

We could get the money for starting the project by taxation; it would soon be supporting itself.
