LAKE COUNTY — Organizers of the Lake County Summer of Peace seek volunteers and workshop proposals.
“Lake County”s goal is to cultivate, inspire and radiate peace throughout the local and worldwide community through the seeds of peace: music, film, video and stage events, all planned around the comfort, beauty and welcome of our region as a choice vacation destination for individuals, couples, families and groups,” Lakeport resident Taira St. John said.
The three-month celebration will kickoff June 22 with dual ceremonies in Lakeport and Clearlake, according to St. John. The first will occur at 4 p.m. in Library Park and the second at 7 p.m. in Austin Park, she added.
The Lake County Board of Supervisors along with the Clearlake and Lakeport city councils have proclaimed the upcoming summer as the “Summer of Peace.”
Proponents are looking for experienced volunteer managers and other staff members to assist the effort part-time or full-time.
Available positions include office manager, bookkeeper, volunteer coordinator, publicist, social network manager, fundraising event assistant and various office workers.
Organizers also seek 12 area overseers to focus on individual cities and towns in Lake County. They also want at least two people with bilingual skills in English and Spanish.
To submit a volunteer application, email a resume, cover letter and reason for interest in the Lake County Summer of Peace to stjohnt@mchsi.com. College and high school students will be considered.
The effort also needs proposals for events or workshops dedicated to an aspect of peace, prosperity or sustainability.
St. John hopes to coordinate more than 200 events around the county during the summer.
The events would be publicized in surrounding counties, the Bay Area, Southern California and other Western states, St. John said.
Proposals can be submitted via email to tairastjohn@gmail.com or by mail to P.O. Box 716, Lakeport, CA 95453.
Submissions should describe the event, potential venue, preferred date, principal people involved and estimated budget.
Individuals, businesses, professionals and wineries as well as nonprofit, military, religious, health and tribal organizations can turn in their ideas.
Lake County Summer of Peace organizers will decide whether to include the proposed events as part of their effort.
