LAKEPORT — A judge Monday scheduled the attempted-murder trial of Andrew James Serrano to start in late July.

Serrano, 39, of Kelseyville faces 10 felonies, four misdemeanors and more than a dozen special allegations for an alleged pattern of harassment involving his estranged wife from mid-spring until late summer last year.

The most serious charges stem from a September incident during which authorities allege Serrano beat his estranged wife, Lesa Serrano, and shot a man, William Turner, who accompanied the woman as she retrieved belongings from the former family home on Big Valley Road in Kelseyville.

Seven felonies — including attempted murder, aggravated mayhem, assault with a firearm and false imprisonment — relate to the shooting incident.

Authorities also claim Serrano committed three felonies and two misdemeanors in July by allegedly following Lesa Serrano, ramming her vehicle and leaving the scene.

The prosecution argues Serrano violated a court order to stay away from the woman during the July incident. The protective order originated because he faced two misdemeanors for allegedly making harassing phone calls to the woman in May.

The court ruled in October that the three pending cases against Serrano for the separate incidents would be merged into one.

Serrano was ordered to stand trial following a preliminary hearing in February.

He appeared at the Lake County Courthouse Monday morning for arraignment. Defense counsel Mitchell Hauptman told the court Serrano pleaded not guilty to the 14 counts and denied all special allegations.

Judge Andrew S. Blum then scheduled the jury trial to begin July 25. The attorneys estimated the proceedings would last a couple of weeks.

Serrano”s next court appearance is set for June 18 for a mandatory settlement conference. He remains in custody at the Lake County Hill Road Correctional Facility.
