LAKEPORT — Steven Edwards went 3-for-3 and Joey Blair added two hits and three RBI on Tuesday as the Clear Lake Cardinals battered Pierce 14-1 in a non-league varsity baseball game called after 4 1/2 innings because of the 10-run rule at Lakeport.
“We came out swinging, putting the ball in play,” Clear Lake assistant coach Gary Milhaupt said. “Everyone in the starting lineup had a hit.”
Clear Lake (2-2) scored all of its runs in two innings – a seven-run first and a seven-run third.
Edwards and Andrew Jackson (2-for-2, RBI) reached base safely in every at-bat as the Cardinals collected 12 hits overall. Besides Blair”s three RBI, Logan Kessinger (1-for-3) and Oren Ruffcorn (1-for-3) drove in two runs apiece.
“Joey Blair had a great day at the plate,” Milhaupt said. “Joey”s been working hard, so it was very nice to see him come through with a couple of hits.”
Ruffcorn, now 2-1 on the season, worked the first three innings for the victory. He allowed no runs on two hits, struck out three and didn”t walk a batter. Ryan Hodges finished up.
