LAKE COUNTY — The progressive and contemporary style of Cheating Daylight gained respectable accolades recently.
The band comprised of two Lake County and three Vacaville brothers was nominated as 2012 Rock Artist of the Year and Showcase Artist of the Year at the Los Angeles Music Awards that will be held in Hollywood in November.
Members of the band of brothers said they went from being strangers to forging an instant connection.
Bass player, 12-year-old Connor Gill, said, “We started jamming right off the bat on the first day.”
The senior member of the band, Jesse Crosson, 17, is a music aficionado. He attends Sacramento State University. He is a multi-instrumentalist and a member of the wind ensemble as well as the big band. Jesse says he incorporates those subtle elements and variety into the music of Cheating Daylight.
Lead vocalist Kyle Crosson follows in his brother”s footsteps, playing the trombone. Kyle also makes time to play on the baseball team. The youngest Crosson brother, Jaden, 13, plays drums.
All the band members are also exemplary students. Guitarist and vocalist Jacob Gill, 16, said he comes from an academic family and it is imperative to maintain good grades and find balance between school studies and music.
The band anticipates playing about 50 shows this year, kicking off the tour with the Indie Music Festival in Las Vegas in April.
Cheating Daylight heads into the studio this week to record its debut album, titled, “All We Know,” produced by Isha Erskine at Prairie Sun Studios in Cotati.
Erskine has worked with Mutt Lange, The Black-Eyed Peas, Maroon 5 and Jeff Beck, to name a few.
Cheating Daylight was named the 2011 Power Pop “Band of the Year” at the 2011 Los Angeles Music Awards and received nominations for “Rock Artist of the Year” and “Pop Artist of the Year” at the All Indie Music Awards.
Rainbo Records also selected Cheating Daylight”s song, Photographs Don”t Lie, from 100,000 submissions by artists worldwide, and the song appeared on the manufacturer”s compilation CD.
