Brewer to present concert in Cloverdale
CLOVERDALE — Pianist, producer, promoter and composer Spencer Brewer will perform a rare solo concert, 7:30 p.m. Friday at the United Church of Cloverdale, located at 439 N. Cloverdale Blvd.
Brewer will perform compositions from his 17 records ? jazz, boogie woogie, blues, semi-classical and compositions that were featured on film scores and TV shows.
There will be a light food reception following the concert. Autographed CDs and music will be on sale. Donations of $5 to $10 will be accepted at the door due to generous sponsors, Reuser Inc. and The Craig Family. Wildlife film festival continues in Ukiah
UKIAH — Two films featured at the International Wildlife Film Festival”s post-festival tour will show this Friday at the Ukiah Civic Center, 300 Seminary Ave. in Ukiah. Doors open at 6:20 p.m. when Daniel Frey will entertain with eclectic world folk music. Films begin at 7 p.m.
“Spoil” follows the International League of Conservation Photographers and the Gitga”at First Nation people of British Columbia in their search for the elusive spirit bear. Their mission is to create images of this rare bear and the ecosystem that it relies on before a proposed oil pipeline from the Alberta tar sands threatens to spoil it. Runtime is 44 minutes.
Also showing is “The Deep” with a runtime of 30 minutes. Billions of tiny sardines embark on a collision course with thousands of dolphins, sharks, seals and gannets. Fate and timing determine who feasts and who survives in this dramatic interplay of species.
Tickets for the Wildlife Film Festival cost $10 for adults and $5 for children and are available at Mendocino Book Company or at the door. Films are appropriate for older children. Some films do contain some predation or procreation scenes.

Presentation on nature-based design
WILLITS — Sustainable gardening consultant Kate Frey will discuss nature-based design, March 18 at the Mendocino County Museum, located at 400 E. Commercial St. in Willits.
Frey”s presentation is part of a closing celebration for “A Passion for Plants & Place: Carl Purdy of Mendocino County.” The free program, which takes place from 2 to 6 p.m. also includes music by Clay Hawkins, a raffle and wine and hors d”oeuvres. ukiaHaiku Festival invites submissions
MENDOCINO COUNTY — The deadline for submissions for the 10th annual ukiaHaiku Festival is March 24. Ten categories are reserved for poets from Mendocino, Lake, Sonoma and Humboldt counties.
There is no fee to enter except for the Jane Reichhold International Prize category, which is open to poets from around the world and offers cash prizes.
