LAKE COUNTY — The fifth-grade classes from Kelseyville and Riviera elementary schools are planning to attend science camp at the Redwood Alliance Conference Grounds in Occidental. The students have not attended science camp since 2006 and are looking forward to camp, which will be held in April.
Although camp is a school-sponsored activity, it is not funded by the schools. The students and parents have been working very hard to raise enough money to send all the students to camp. The cost per student is $170, which includes all meals, transportation and overnight accommodations.
In an effort to raise funds for the trip, the classes are hosting a dinner and auction from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Friday at the Kelseyville High School Student Center. Michelle Malm from the Kelseyville Unified School District will prepare a build-your-own-taco bar with green salad, chips and salsa and a make-your-own-quesadilla station.
There will be a live homemade dessert auction starting at 6:30 p.m.
Local artist John Clarke has lent his talent in designing class plates, which were painted and autographed by students at both schools. The plates were donated by California Exterminators. Clarke has designed an original mermaid plate to auction as well.
The community has donated several items for the silent auction with items for adults and children alike. The Kelseyville Youth Football League donated a registration for football and cheerleading. The Taylor Observatory has donated an evening under the stars for 10 people. Gift baskets from Steele Wines and Wildhurst Wineries and wildlife art by Lyle and Deanna Madeson will also be offered.
Tickets can be purchased at California Exterminators, Kelseyville Elementary School and Riviera Elementary School or at the door.
