CLEARLAKE — Moderate injuries were sustained by the woman driver of a Ford Windstar van Thursday. Three vehicles including the van were damaged in the crash, which occurred at about 10:50 a.m.
The incident remains under the investigation of the Clearlake Police Department; however, it appears the woman was traveling eastbound on Olympic Drive when for unknown reasons she accelerated and struck the drainage ditch between the Lake County Fire District (LCFD) office and Lake Express Lube. The van became airborne and then crashed into fixed objects including two vehicles parked at the automotive service center.
“She jumped over that culvert then she hit a sign,” Debra Lopea, of Clearlake, who witnessed the incident, said. “She hit it hard enough that the sign went flying in the air. It was a scene you wouldn”t believe, with wood just flying everywhere.”
The van continued until it crashed into a Jeep and a Saturn that were in the parking lot. The woman was transported for medical treatment via LCFPD ambulance.
