Have you watched the Republicans on TV? Here this country is in the process of extracting itself from Afghanistan after just getting out of Iraq. Both foreign countries want us to leave. Actually most of the Arab countries dislike or downright hate us.
But here are the Republicans saying we should start another War with other Arab countries. Even a writer of a letter to the editor to the Record-Bee (Randy Ridgel) thinks we “cut and ran” from Iraq. That was an inane statement.
The withdrawal was planned for years and was not a route by the enemy. Now have you ever noticed who the people are who want to go to war? They are people who will never go to the conflict to fight, but they are certainly willing to send our young men and women into harm”s way. Why is that? I have a good idea.
When you tell a young person to jump off the cliff for God and country, that person will usually jump yelling “Geronimo” all the way down. You tell an older, say 40-year-old, to jump off a cliff for God and country and most likely he will not do it or tell you to go first, watching carefully to make sure it is safe to do first. Well that would not work in a war situation.
My feeling is if we go to war it had better be worth more than just showing other countries that we carry the big stick. Except for getting rid of Saddam Hussein, going to War in Iraq was a monstrous waste of our young people”s lives.
At least in Afghanistan we had the attack on New York”s twin towers for justification to go there and slap Al-qaeda forces where they earned it.
Ridgel, who wrote about cutting and running from Iraq does not like our President, so he tends to exaggerate things that are not going well in our country.
He complains about the cost of gas as if the President had something to do with it. He does not. He complains about Obamacare as many others do. The Republicans were invited to help form a package to insure all Americans. The Republicans answer was a resounding no, simply because they oppose any government-funded program. Republicans hate all government-funded programs, Social Security, Medicare, etc.
So, think before you vote, please!
