KELSEYVILLE — The Kelseyville Knights banged out 16 hits, half of them for extra bases, in a 20-0 season-opening softball win over the Potter Valley Bearcats on Friday afternoon in Kelseyville.

Called after 4 1/2 innings because of the 10-run rule, the non-league game featured plenty of pop from the Kelseyville lineup. The Knights banged out three triples – two by Stacy Ogden (3-for-3, 5 RBI) – and five doubles – two by Jennifer Green (3-for-4, 2 RBI). Victoria Zendejas also had three hits for Kelseyville, which had a 2-16 record a year ago.

“We”re looking a whole lot better than last year, I”m really excited,” head coach Taryn Kysely said.

The Knights are young and field only four seniors on a roster dominated by sophomores and juniors. One of those seniors, Sabrina Lyon, combined with junior Stephanie Green on a four-hit shutout.

Lyon struck out eight and walked none in four innings for the victory. Green struck two in her one inning on the mound.

“Sabrina did a good job,” Kysely said. “She kept it under control.”

Kelseyville scored in every inning, including a 10-run bottom of the fourth.

Kyra Rudnick, Stacy Solgat and Savannah Meyer had two hits apiece for the Knights. Meyer also tripled and drove in three runs.

The Knights are scheduled to play a doubleheader Tuesday in Laytonville although that might not happen, according to Kysely. Kelseyville will host St. Bernard in a doubleheader on March 17, weather permitting.
